The three life zones which occur in the area, the varying amount of rainfall, and the differences in topography greatly influence the number and diversity of plant and animal species in and
around the mountains. Life zones are differentiated by plant and animal distributions as influenced by elevation, temperature, moisture, and exposure.
The Lower Sonoran Life Zone
includes the flat or valley land, and also occurs on the slopes on the west side of the mountain up to about 5,000 feet. Dominant vegetation is creosote bush, mesquite & grama grasses.
